106 e. washington st.

Project Status: Completed

AMBL Studios found its home in the heart of downtown Athens, transforming a former cabinet shop into a vibrant, modern studio. Led by founder Brad Mallette, the $1.2 million renovation honored the building’s history while reimagining it with locally sourced and environmentally conscious materials and creative reuse. The result is a high-functioning, design-forward space that reflects AMBL’s ethos and enhances the East Washington Street streetscape.

Before and After Photos

106 Washington is an adaptive reuse of a historic 1925 brick party-wall building in downtown Athens. The space now houses the multidisciplinary “studios” of AMBL; an architecture office, a music studio, and a fabrication shop, all under one roof. What was once a patchwork of ad hoc repairs has been reimagined as a cohesive, modern, and accessible workspace that celebrates the building’s historical character while supporting the creative and technical demands of a contemporary design studio.
